A Victorious Revolution
This was a guiding principle developed by Mao Tse Tung, emphasising that successful revolutionary leadership requires a triad of theoretical understanding, historical knowledge, and practical, on-the-ground experience. It stresses that action without proper, evidence-based strategy is doomed to failure.
KEY COMPONENTS OF THE REVOLUTION:
👊🏾REVOLUTIONARY THEORY: Providing the intellectual framework and vision. A systematised, scientific guiding line, method, or policy that informs action, rather than blind action.👊🏾KNOWLEDGE OF HISTORY: Learning from past successes and failures to avoid repeating mistakes. Understanding past movements, mistakes, and successes to guide present actions.👊🏾GRASP OF THE PRACTICAL MOVEMENT: Staying connected to the actual realities and struggles of the people on the ground. Deep, hands-on understanding of the actual, specific conditions of the struggle (“revolutionary practice”).
Without all three, a movement often becomes either a directionless rebellion or an out-of-touch academic exercise that is ultimately hijacked by counter-revolution. Therefore, what is highlighted here is the need for “unity of theory and practice” to avoid the pitfalls of subjective, disorganised and/or spontaneous actions.
