Remembering Barney Molokoane (27 August 1957 – 28 November 1985) “Barney was my friend. We played soccer in the same team. He was very talkative and didn’t mince his words. If he doesn’t agree with you, it doesn’t matter who you are. Because of the operations he was involved in, Barney was taken as a hero wherever he was. When you sit and talk to him, he doesn’t even worry about those things. But he looks at you, talks to you as comrades, and mingles with you. You won’t feel that you are with a commander. He was down to earth. You didn’t have to bring tea for him or whatever. Barney was like us – and could take turns for everything. He will motivate you to be a fighter … He was very gifted. Barney was everything.” – Mangaliso Matyobeni (aka “Major” or “Zwele”:Special Ops) – History and a committed allegiance to the cause of liberation bequeathed that Richard “Barney” Lekgotla Molokoane should shoulder an onerous responsibility, one that ought not be the fate of any young man in a normal society. “Bhuda” will forever be remembered for his exceptional bravery, his total dedication to the cause of freedom and the revolution, and for his rousing leadership which inspired the loyalty and trust of those he commanded.
