Cementing Ties Preparing for a Stronger Future

(Excerpts of a Speech by President Netumbo Ndemupelila Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of SWAPO Party and of the Republic of Namibia)

“Together, we will honour the sacrifices of our forefathers, confront present challenges, and build a future where Southern Africa stands as a beacon of freedom, justice, and solidarity for the Global South.”

There are concerted efforts by those who were opposed to our independence, who masquerade in economic, political, and diplomatic conspiracies to undermine the gains of our revolution. They are motivated, as we are all aware, by both domestic and foreign policy interests, and actively seek to undermine the political dominance of our liberation parties, with the long-term objective of weakening and unseating us from power altogether. Their target is always our youth who are the majority voters in our countries. The outcomes of most of our recent elections in our respective countries are clear warnings that should not be taken lightly.

Our resoluteness has bruised the ego of the former occupying powers as colonial masters, who seek to avenge the humiliation they suffered from African National Liberation Movements. We should continue to relentlessly uphold the historical legacy of the armed struggles for national liberation of the people of Southern Africa.

It is indeed our resolve to deepen this sacred sisterhood bound by blood, to counter the rising forces of right-wing racism, neo-colonialism, economic exploitation and economic blocks that threaten our very sovereignty and progress.

We condemn in the strongest terms the imperialist ambitions, demonstrated by policies that seek to divide Africa and exploit its resources for artificial intelligence, digital technology, and green energy. SWAPO Party rejects this unipolar agenda and recommits to a multi-polar world order rooted in Pan-Africanism, anti-imperialism, and international solidarity underscoring South-South Cooperation.

Thus, our first task is to forge a united front, reinforcing that liberation is not an endpoint, but an ongoing process that requires our sustained commitment, vigilance, and activism. Our strength lies not only in resisting external threats, but in our ability to hold each other’s hands and hold one another accountable as sister parties. Accountability is the cornerstone of our legitimacy and the trust our people placed in us.

We need to commit to building international alliances to amplify our voice and resist exploitation, while remaining true to the principles of human rights, peaceful conflict resolution, and multilateralism.

Comrades, the time for revolutionary renewal is now!
The time for action is now.
Let us move forward together with dignity, purpose, and unity.
