G.C. “Castro” Khwela holds a Masters Degree in Military Science from Stellenbosch University and a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Limpopo. He joined the Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University, as a post-graduate student, and obtained an Honours Degree in Military Science, after serving as an Officer (Major) in the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) following integration as a former Cadre and Political Commissar of Umkhonto We Sizwe.
Khwela served as the National Security Operations Manager for Transnet National Ports Authority, responsible for developing and implementing security initiatives to ensure that all the national ports and harbours were secured. From November 2011 to December 2015, Khwela was the Deputy Director-General (DDG): Counter Corruption and Security Services, at the Department of Home Affairs.
Currently, Khwela does research on Security and Heritage for Umkhonto we Sizwe Liberation War Veterans (MKLWV), works part-time as a Consultant for Security Services, and does private work as a Fine Artist.
